Where are hiking trails in Raleigh, NC?

Updated: Nov 9, 2021

Raleigh offers many different types of hiking trails. We have unpaved and paved trails all throughout the city. My personal favorites are the unpaved nature trails around Falls Lake. These trails give you a great view of the lake! The paved trails, or Greenway Trails, are a connected path throughout the city.

Some of the unpaved trails through the woods are part of the Mountain-to-sea trail. This is actually a hiking trail that goes from Clingmans Dome in the Smokey Mountains, all the way to Nags Head in the Outer Banks! This trail does go through Raleigh and many cities around it as well. I have never hiked this whole trail, but there are many people who have!

The Greenway Trail is over 100 miles of public trails around Raleigh! A lot of the Greenway Trails offer parking, parks, nature studies, and more. You are allowed to bike on these trails if you would like to. This trail is continually being added to and improved. There are certain parts of the trail that goes along the Falls Of Nuese River as well.

The best source to find ALL hiking trails, parks, greenways, baseball fields, disc golf, or any outdoor activity, is with the greenspace app. This app was created by the City Of Raleigh and constantly updates when a new outdoor activity is created! Download it below.
